Definition of coating

A process which consists in covering the surface of a fabric with a specific coating to provide it with special properties.

Purpose

The purpose of coating is to make fabrics stronger, waterproof, and fireproof. Coating also provides screening properties, surface protection, colour, and a foundation for silk screening...among other properties.
